Selected Annual Programs:
The SCGD promotes the purchase of Israeli products to assist her economy. Annually, a comprehensive list of sources for Israeli-made items, including information on web sites is published and distributed over the High Holidays and festivals to help identify Israeli products. A special information booklet was created and distributed at the Denver Community Israel Solidarity rally in July, 2006.
For over 25 years as an interfaith civic activity, the SCGD has extended the hand of friendship to the larger community by coordinating Jewish volunteers to relieve non-Jewish, non-medical hospital, and nursing home staff over Christmas. SCGD has a presence in seven hospitals and Shalom Park.
The SCGD in conjunction with the Golden Hill Cemetery Committee and in collaboration with Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado and Synagogues, coordinates volunteers to assist in the upkeep of the pauper's section, the Hill, at Golden Hill Cemetery founded in 1908. Volunteers annually maintain this section of the cemetery. This mitzvah project has been adopted for Synagogue Mitzvah Day and youth community service.
The SCGD is part of a national program coordinating volunteers to assist teachers in public schools teaching at-risk children how to read. Synagogues' volunteers represent the Jewish community on an ongoing, weekly basis at selected schools in an effort to promote literacy.
Every year the Rocky Mountain Rabbinical Council and the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado, and the SCGD
with support from and volunteer coordination of Jewish Family Services, provides Kosher Passover food to financially constrained households who are unable to afford Passover goods. Additional funding is provided by synagogues, organizations and private donations. This project offers a community service opportunity particularly for youth organizations and clubs.
This project benefits Israeli and Denver families needing assistance with clothing for children. Local preschools, Synagogues, Day Schools and the community at large play a key role in this annual project which bridges the Jewish and secular population in communities.
